We are very happy to welcome Steve Gwynne as new adjunct Professor of Evacuation and Pedestrian Dynamics at the division of Fire Safety Engineering. Prof. Gwynne will work 20% at the division aside of his ordinary work as Research Lead at Movement Strategies (UK).
Prof. Gwynne has nearly 25 years of experience in the area of pedestrian dynamics, human behaviour in fire and evacuation modelling. He has previously held research positions in government, industry and academia. During this period he has been funded by the EU, SFPE, NFPA, NIST, and the UK, US and Canadian Governments, amongst many other research and commercial sources. He has worked in the aviation, maritime, rail and built environments, and has also worked in large-scale disasters (e.g. wildfire incidents). He is a chartered mathematician (CMath) and chartered scientist (CSci) through the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, and is also a member of the Institute of Fire Engineers (MIFireE). He has worked on the development of numerous guidance and regulation documents for ISO, International Maritime Organization (IMO), NFPA, SFPE, National Building Code Canada (NBCC) and delivered professional courses for International Code Council (ICC) and SFPE.
